Artist Profile

Carl D'Alvia

b. 1965 Sleepy Hollow NY /Lives and works in Connecticut and NYC

sculpture

In Carl D’Alvia's hands, bronze, resin, and marble become nearly unrecognizable, robbed of their august bronzeness and marbleness. Animal shapes or eccentric geometrical forms are subsumed to an all-overizing of what can only be called some kind of hair - or fur, or feathers. D’Alvia repurposes and re-introduces ancient bronze and marble into the current art conversation by coating them, like some kind of sculptural master chocolatier, in strangely appetizing robes of pop-flavored humor and playfulness.
